SPECIES AND SUB-SPECIES

There are three species of False water cobras according to some authoraties. Others claim there are but two species, I elect to go with the older version.

The Brazilian smooth snake or Cyclagaras gigas. It is found in Bolivia, Paraguay and along the Amazon in Southern Brazil.

The snake kept in most U.S. collections is Hydrodynastes bicinctus. Its home is in French Guyana to Brazil.

The third is Hydrodynastes Schultzi It to lives in French Guyana and Brazil.

For years the term Hydrodynastes Gigas has stood firm when talking about this snake and for that reason I chose to lable this paper H.gigas.
