BREEDING FWC'S
Hydrodyanstes Gigas is a prolific breeder in the wild and in captivity. The females mature at three years of age and the
males mature a bit faster around 2 and a half years of age. The female will deposit some 15 to 30 leathery eggs in a well
hidden damp area safe from predators.
About 90 days later the young emerge measuring 11 to 15 inches long. They are on their own from the start but all the information
needed to survive has been encoded into their genetic makeup. After their first shed, which will take about 8 to 10 days
from birth they will go out and make their first kill. From that day on they will eat every week or so. They will grow to
almost four feet in their first year.
