CAPTIVE CARE NOTES !

The FWC is a water loving species of snake. It should have a large water bowl, large enough to allow the snake to soak in. The aquarium must be of large size, If you aquire a juvinal a 20 gallon tank will do for a while but a full grown snake must have a 55 gallon tank at least. I feed my FWC's frozen / thawed mice and rats. I defrost them in warm water and bring the body temperature up to around 98 degrees. I always use tongs to offer the mice with. I hold off on feeding while the snake is going through a molt phase, this usually takes about 8 days. Water is very important and mine is changed every evening. The temperature is also important. On one end of my tank the temp. is 80 to 85 degrees and 90 to 95 on the other end with a basking spot of up to 100 degrees. A hide box is critical for the well being of your snake. I place one at each end and let the FWC choose. Humidity is kept about 80 % this is most important during the shed cycle. As FWC's are teresterial snakes climbing branches are not that important but I have a few plactic plants and bush's in case she wants to climb. As for sub straight I have found that White 100% cotton towels work wonderfull. I use a large towel folded in half and place it on the floor of the tank. It shows fleas, mites and waste passed by the snake and this allows me to keep it clean 24-7. My snakes also like to crawl between the folds for quiet time. But the clean aspect of white cotton is what I like best and I have three towels for each tank so a freash one is always ready when needed.
